Airport authorities and local traffic enforcers on Friday apprehended colorum and illegally parked vehicles in Pasay City as part of the government’s road-clearing campaign to ease traffic.

Personnel of the Manila International Airport Authority – Landside Police Division spearheaded the clearing operations together with Pasay and Paranaque City traffic enforcers resulting in the apprehension of at least 10 cars, five electronic tricycles and a stalled delivery truck along Domestic Road near Terminal 4.

“This is a continuing multi-agency effort intended to address rampant violations of colorum and illegally parked vehicles at major thoroughfares leading to the four NAIA Terminals,” said MIAA chief information officer Connie Bungag.

On Jan 9, the MIAA, LGU’s, Interagency Council for Traffic, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have agreed to join hands to address rampant violations of colorum and illegally parked vehicles at the vicinity of the airport.

MIAA general manager Cesar Chiong said the Task Force in close coordination with Airport Traffic Police Division, and other member agencies “shall continue to undertake more and frequent and spot operations to keep them out of the NAIA.”

“We thank the MMDA for their willingness to help us in solving this problem that has been hounding the airport complex for years,” Chiong said.

Chiong sought the collaboration of other agencies because of the heavy traffic around NAIA during the Christmas peak.

He said the MIAA and MMDA will impose sanctions, fines and penalties to violators pursuant to existing laws without prejudice to filing of appropriate charges in court.
