Classes and work in government offices in Albay will be suspend due to the inclement weather prevailing over the province.
In an advisory, Governor Edcel Greco Lagman said classes and school activities are suspended at all levels for schools both in public and private, GMA News reported.
Not covered by the suspension of government work are “agencies whose functions are related to public safety, disaster risk reduction, health and related services,” the advisory said.
Suspension of work in private offices, on the other hand, will be at the discretion of their respective heads.
“Exempted from the suspension of work in private institutions are banks, money transfer/remittance agencies, malls, groceries, delivery services, distributors of commodities/supplies and drug stores,” the advisory said.
There’s a new supergroup to shake up your social media feed! Lagman, who also heads the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Council (PDRRMC), cited “adverse effects of continuous rainfall and expected thunderstorms” as reasons for the suspension of classes and government work.
Some areas in the Bicol Region and Mindanao meanwhile experienced flooding and power outage over the weekend as heavy rains and strong winds prevailed.
In Koronadal, South Cotabato, trees uprooted by strong winds damaged a store and blocked roads, GMA News reported.
No one was hurt, but some areas lost power after uprooted trees damaged some power lines.
In Kidapawan City, Cotabato, a power outage occurred after uprooted trees likewise affected some power lines.
The Cotabato Electric Company was able to restore power after an hour.
In Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur in the Bicol Region, heavy rains caused poor visibility on roads.
Local officials evacuated residents in flooded areas in the municipality of Lagonoy in Camarines Sur.
In Bulan, Sorsogon, meanwhile, a spillway was damaged by heavy rains, making it difficult for residents to cross the affected area due to the strong water current.
In Calanasan, Apayao, Eva Road was closed to motorists after heavy rains caused the road to be covered in mud and soil.
The Department of Public Works and Highways has started clearing the road to enable motorists to pass.
PAGASA said the shear line and the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) caused the bad weather felt in these provinces over the weekend.
