DAR heads cash aid distribution in Kidapawan

Along with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp., the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has spearheaded the distribution of financial aid 536 agrarian reform beneficiaries in Kidapawan City, Cotabato after suffering damages and losses due to rat infestation and flooding.

DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III turned over a check worth P2 million to 483 farmers of Alamada, and P272,904 to 53 others of Carmen to help them rise again after their livelihood was ravaged by typhoons and followed by pestilence from rats.

He gave the assurance that the agency is closely working with the PCIC to assist affected farmers to immediately indemnify them from their losses.

“Ensuring the crops and livestock of farmers, especially the ARBs, is one way to protect the source of their livelihood by providing compensation for the damages incurred by natural calamities. It is a big help for the farmers because it gives them hope to start anew,” he said.

The amount received by each farmer was determined based on the area of the land they are tilling and the stage of the crop when affected by natural calamities.

DAR has climate resiliency programs wherein they provide farmers with aid to help them recover from the effects of disasters or calamities.
