Megaworld putting up a new casino complex in former San Lazaro racetrack

Megaworld Corp. said Monday it will invest P15 billion to build a new mixed-use development and casino complex at the San Lazaro Tourism and Business Park—the former site of a racetrack in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Megaworld said in a disclosure to the stock exchange the three-hectare development called the Winford Resort would feature a mix of residential condominiums, hotels and commercial developments with a casino complex.

Megaworld acquired the property in January 2022 from Manila Jockey Club Inc. for P1.98 billion. The acquisition is part of the company’s efforts to boost its presence in the capital city.

The property firm said the development, inspired by ‘Old Manila’ structural designs reminiscent of the pre-war era, was envisioned to become a major tourism destination in Manila.

“This commitment to revive the old beauty of Manila will be apparent in the designs of the commercial developments of this community,” Megaworld first vice president and head of sales and marketing Wilson Sy said.

Megaworld will initially launch a new residential condominium tower in the township—the 17-story One Crown Suites.

One Crown Suites offers 389 units ranging from studio with balcony (up to 30.5 square meters), one-bedroom with balcony (up to 45.5 square meters) and two-bedroom with balcony (up to 60.5 square meters).

Amenities include a swimming pool and kiddie pool with its own pool deck and outdoor shower area, study room, fitness center, playground and outdoor lounge, function room, sauna and massage room, private dining area, day care center, game room, roofdeck garden and a co-working space.

All units are equipped with wireless smart home systems and devices.

Megaworld said it planned to complete the project by 2028.

Another major feature of the integrated lifestyle community is the promenade made of cobblestones, reminiscent of the pavements used during the Hispanic era.

“The beautiful architecture of the pre-war years will be seen in the Promenade, which is envisioned to become a major tourism destination in this side of Manila,” Sy said. Jenniffer B. Austria
