Megawide Construction Corporation (“Megawide” or the “Company”) was recognized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for reaching 13 million safe man-hours from January 2018 to June 2022 in its Taytay Industrial Plant. Currently, the Taytay Industrial Plant is home to almost 900 employees working in the Precast plant, Formworks systems yard, and Construction Equipment, Logistics and Services (CELS) office.
Focus on Occupational Safety and Health remains a priority as the Company pushes for a stronger Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance, with 13 million as the highest recorded safe man-hours for the Plant by far. A Safe man-hour is a measure for producing or completing a unit without any lost time incident.
According to study by McKinsey & Company, companies that exhibit a high ESG score grow faster and attract more potential investors as these are considered good corporate citizens with strong accountability, compared with those practicing less sustainable propositions. Megawide ensures that its ESG initiatives are given priority, with safety falling under the “Social” category of ESG.
“We have a strong commitment to safety across our operations to ensure the protection of employees in the performance of their duties,” said Megawide Executive Vice-President for Precast and Construction Solutions Markus Hennig. “As we forge ahead with more projects and developments, we will strive to continuously meet Philippine safety standards in all our sites and facilities for the welfare of our employees, their families, and the entire organization,” he continued.
In all, Megawide has so far tallied a total of 24 million safe man-hours across its construction sites, which were also recognized by DOLE this year. These are PH1’s The Hive project site, with 2 million in May; Suntrust’s Westside City Site B in Paranaque with 5 million in July; Megaworld’s Gentry Manor for 3 million and Prince Jun’s University Tower 5 for 1 million both in September. DOLE recognizes companies that carry out safe man-hours following the Republic Act No. 11058 or the Occupational and Health Standards Act. The law promotes a safe and healthy workplace to protect Filipino workers through occupational safety and health policies.
