A female teacher was killed after a bus carrying 46 public school teachers from Quezon City schools and two drivers fell off a cliff in Orani, Bataan on Saturday.
Orani police chief Larry Valencia said the bus was heading back to Quezon City after attending a seminar in Bataan.
In a statement, the Schools Division Office of Quezon City said the ill-fated bus was among the 3 buses that left San Francisco High School Compound in Quezon City on Friday.
At about 11:30 a.m. yesterday, the bus that was carrying 48 passengers, while negotiating a very sharp curve, lost its brakes and plunged into a 15-meter ravine.
Early responders of the Province of Bataan rushed the injured passengers to the Orani District Hospital where they were given first aid.
Three of the injured were brought to the Balanga Provincial Hospital where they are undergoing further treatment.
The lone fatality, a teacher of Payatas B Elementary School, was declared dead on arrival at the Orani District Hospital.
The local government of Quezon City and the DepEd Schools Division Office pledged to shoulder all medical expenses of the injured passengers as well as financial assistance to the deceased.
The driver is currently being held at the Orani Police Station for questioning.
