The result of a DNA test showed that the skeletal remains found in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan were that of the missing 22-year-old Jovelyn Galleno, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.
NBI spokesperson Atty. Giselle Dumlao, quoted by a GMA News report said the NBI conducted a separate crime scene investigation on August 27, where they discovered three pieces of human bones.
On September 1, Dumlao said a forensic team identified the parents of Jovelyn as a reference sample for the DNA analysis which took 13 days to be completed.
“The result became available on September 12, 2022 and the result revealed that the DNA profile from the skeletal remain matches with Jovelyn Galleno, based on the profile from its reference or biological parents with a 99.99% probability of relationship,” Dumlao, in the GMA News report, said.
“Sa kadahilanan na wala namang ibang anak ang magasawa na nawawala o namatay, maliban kay Jovelyn, masasabi natin na ito ay si Jovelyn Galleno,” she added.
(For the reason that the couple has no other children who are missing or dead, except for Jovelyn, we can say that this is Jovelyn Galleno.)
Puerto Princesa Police spokesperson Police Captain Maria Victoria Iquin last month also said that results of DNA examination conducted on the skeletal remains and a swab sample provided by Galleno’s mother yielded a 99.9% match.
The skeletal remains were found in Barangay Santa Lourdes on August 23, days after Galleno was reported missing on August 5.
Galleno’s cousin, Leobert Dasmariñas, had admitted to raping and killing her, according to local police.
