Gaming company Bloomberry Resorts Corp. is set to reopen its Jeju casino property in South Korea next month, after more than two years of non-operation amid the pandemic.

A source from Bloomberry said Jeju Sun Hotel & Casino would reopen on Oct. 3.

Under the plan, Jeju Sun will reopen with 203 hotel rooms, 4 gaming tables, 51 slot machines and 8 electronic table games.

Jeju Sun will also feature newly-renovated hotel rooms, an international buffet, a Korean restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, a new ballroom, conference rooms and a fitness club that features a gym, sauna and Jacuzzi.

Bloomberry chief finance officer Estela Tuason-Occena said in an earlier investor briefing that Jeju Sun needed to reopen to maintain its 5-star rating and keep its gaming license valid.

The company announced in 2016 its plan to sell its stake in the casino property. The sale did not push through after a buyer backed out.

Jeju Sun, at the start of the pandemic in South Korea, began a phased suspension of operations on March 6, 2020, with full suspension achieved on March 21, 2020. The company reported zero gaming and non-gaming revenues since then.

Jeju Sun is Bloomberry’s first casino venture outside the Philippines.

Jeju Sun is owned by G&L Co. Ltd., which in turn is majority-owned by Solaire Korea. Bloomberry owns Solaire Korea.

Bloomberry is also aggressively expanding in the domestic market with the planned opening of second hotel and casino in Quezon City.

The company also reported in May its plan to invest in two integrated resort and casino properties owned by businessman Dennis Uy.
