A 30-year-old man was killed after two boats collided during the Taguig River Festival in Taguig City on Tuesday, the Philippine Coast Guard reported yesterday.
The PCG said the body of the victim, Jester Romero, was found past 6 a.m. on Wednesday after a 12-hour search.
The collision happened Tuesday afternoon as both boats were on their way home after the parade.
One boat capsized first, prompting its passengers to jump into the boat that was carrying Romero and his friends, causing it to capsize as well.
“The boats were privately rented by the passengers and were not included in the manifesto of boats submitted to the city government and the Sta. Ana Church,” the Taguig City local government said in a statement.
Participants who were aboard bots that were officially part of the fluvial parade wore life vests and were escorted by rescue boats, the LGU added.
The Taguig LGU and the Sta. Ana Church have expressed condolences to the family of Romero and promised to provide assistance.
