Commanding a 20-point lead with 154 points at the end of rounds two and three of the of the ROK GP Philippines Karting Series is Junior Class champ Bernard “Bern” Corpino of Dr.Q Motorsports.
He edged out his closest rival Danzel Waytan, who has a total of 134 points.
It was excellent form and consistency that led to these stunning wins at Clark International Speedway last July 9.
Even with a third-place finish in Round 2 and a second-place feat in Round 3, Corpino’s total points pushed him upfront overall in the leaderboard.
He is now headed for furiously technical South Garda Karting track in Lonato, Italy to represent he country in the prestigious ROK GP World Karting Series later this year.
Corpino, who will turn 15 next month, only started competitive karting last year. A crucial part of Team Dr.Q Motorsports along with AAP Karter of the Year Miguel Quiñones, Corpino has also landed 3rd overall in the Intermediate Class of the Petron Motorsports Karting Academy, a race program that scouts for racing talents in the country.
“I want to be Junior Karter of the Year of the Philippines this year. One day I hope to compete in Formula 4, where all F1 drivers started their international racing careers,” Corpino said, with cautious confidence, though his racing records prove that he is quickly chipping away to achieve this goal.
He has already started competing in the novice class for Autocross car racing. With the experience here, he hopes to participate either or both the Toyota Vios Cup or Formula V1 races. He believes that the Lonato race will surely enhance his driving skills.
