Former Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III remains unsure if he would stay with the Majority Bloc or join the Minority Bloc in the incoming 19th Congress in the Senate.
Pimentel said there are some considerations that he needs to look into before coming out with a decision.
According to Pimentel, he will still undergo an inward reflection and discussion with his colleagues.”
He will also consider the overall composition of the majority and its plans.
Sen. Risa Hontiveros, who sought re-election under the Leni-Kiko Team, would be the only opposition senator in the coming Congress.
Two of her colleagues who ran last May 9, Sen. Leila De Lima, also a reelectionist , and former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV failed to win.
Two oppositions in the current composition of the Senate are Minority Leader Franklin Drilon and De Lima. Drilon will end his term on June 30.
Pimentel divulged he is still torn between staying in the majority or joining the Hontiveros.
“The minority’s role is to check the majority—follow the rules, give time to opposing views, allow improvement to legislation, etc. It is really not to oppose the admin, although that seems to be the prevalent impression,” explained Pimentel.
Earlier, Pimentel strongly opposed the PDP- Cusi faction endorsement of presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.
He has maintained that Marcos is the embodiment of everything PDP-Laban fought against. “His endorsement is also the gravest contradiction of the history, struggle, aspirations, principles, and objectives of the true PDP LABAN,” Pimentel said.
