First district Rep. Wes Gatchalian was chosen as the new mayor of the city located north of Metro Manila, while former Malabon City Vice Mayor Jeannie Sandoval succeeded in winning the mayoralty race in her second attempt.
The final tally of the city’s Board of Canvassers showed Gatchalian got 275,650 votes while his lone rival engineer Bombit Bernardo garnered 75,026 votes.
Gatchalian, running under the Nationalist People’s Coalition, is the third member of the powerful clan who assumed the city’s top post.
With her win, Sandoval took Malabon’s mayoralty post from the influential Oreta family.
In an unofficial tally, Sandoval garnered 94,826 votes while her rival, Enzo Oreta, garnered 93,547 votes.
Prior to her victory, Sandoval served as Malabon’s vice mayor for two terms, 2013-2016 and 2016-2019. In 2019, she ran for the mayoral post but lost to incumbent Mayor Antolin Oreta III.
