With only 18 days until the May 9 elections, a survey revealed the race for Vice President has been narrowed down to Mayor Inday Sara Duterte and Senate President Tito Sotto.
In the latest nationwide survey by the RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD), 51 percent of the respondents named Mayor Duterte as their preferred vice presidential candidate, followed by Sotto, who received 40 percent of voter support in the survey held from April 1-6, 2022.
The “RPMD Boses ng Bayan: Halalan 2022” is an independent and non-commissioned poll conducted on 10,000 registered voters as respondents using face-to-face interviews, and random sampling across the country. According to Dr. Paul Martinez of RPMD, the survey’s margin of error is +/- 1%.
In a previous survey conducted by the same company from March 15 to 22, Duterte’s voter preference was 54 percent, higher by three points than the present poll. Meanwhile, Sotto’s figure rose five points from 35% in March.
The survey also revealed that while Duterte kept her “bailiwicks” and ruled her home region of Mindanao, where 68 percent of participants surveyed said they would vote for her, her present number dropped by 7 percent, benefiting Sotto.
President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter also led but fell slightly in Metro Manila (50%) and the Visayas region (42%).
Sotto continued to rise in Mindanao and maintained his strength in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Luzon. There was a “significant increase” in Metro Manila (40%) and Visayas (42%), RPMD said.
Meanwhile, support for Sen. Kiko Pangilinan fell, as he received only a 5% overall rating, which benefited Sotto. Rep. Lito Atienza of Buhay party-list and Doc Willie Ong both received a 1 percent survey score.
The survey also showed that ACT-CIS (7.45 percent) is the top choice for party-list among voters, followed by An Waray (6.35%), Ako Bicol (6.18 percent), Ang Probinsyano (4.97%), and Gabriela (4.75 percent).
