Maynilad boosts leak repair, pipe replacement

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) is stepping up its leak repair and pipe replacement activities as part of the company’s measures to conserve water for the summer season of 2022.

“The repair of leaks and replacement of old pipelines are an important part of our supply augmentation measures for summer. We ask our customers to immediately report pipe leaks that they see on the streets, as this will help us to recover more water for distribution,” said Maynilad chief operating officer Randolph Estrellado.

Since the start of the year until March, Maynilad has repaired around 9,000 pipe leaks across its entire concession area, that resulted to the recovery of some 36 million liters per day of water for the use of its customers. This volume of recovered water is enough to meet the need of some 36,000 households.

Maynilad said most of the pipe leaks repaired this year were found in Quezon City. Muntinlupa, Manila, and Caloocan.

Maynilad is also currently rehabilitating old pipes along Maria Clara, Algeciras, Legarda and T. Mapua Streets in Manila, and in various locations in Quezon City, Caloocan, Muntinlupa, and Parañaque.

Aside from its intensified leak repair and pipe rehabilitation program, the company is also managing pressure in the pipelines so the water supply can be maximized and more water will be made available for customers’ use, particularly during hours of peak demand.

It is also reactivating several deep wells and constructing 4 modular treatment plants that will draw water from nearby rivers and convert it to drinking water.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System for the West

Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the certain portions of Manila, portions of Quezon City, west of South Super Highway in Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, in Cavite.
