‘Twinning’: Catriona Gray unveils wax figure in Madame Tussaud’s Singapore

Fans of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray now have a chance to walk alongside the beauty queen and attempt her iconic “lava walk.”

Unveiled last March 30, Wednesday, Catriona’s wax figure is available in an interactive display at Madame Tussauds Singapore branch, the famous wax museum that creates wax figures in the likeness of celebrities and other notable personalities.

Catriona’s wax figure is the spitting image of herself and dons her iconic 2018 winning look: the glittering red gown by Mak Tumang, her sun ear cuff, and the Philippines sash.

Tumang designed a replica of the gown for the wax figure while Catriona lent her a spare pair of shoes that she brought for the pageant.

Catriona is the first and only Filipino featured at Madame Tussauds Singapore. She considers it an opportunity to bring pride to Filipinos again, especially those who live and work in Singapore.

“Yes, it is a wax figure of me, but in the dress and the accessories, it was Filipino talent that really allowed me to be at that standard that is so appreciated today. I really lift this honor to my fellow kababayans, to my fellow Filipinos,” she said during the unveiling.

She also said that she hopes Filipinos who walk the halls of Madame Tussauds Singapore will feel a sense of pride as she did during the Miss Universe pageant.

Beginning March 31, Catriona’s wax figure is on view until September 2022 before touring Bangkok and Hong Kong. Located in the museum’s TV and film zone, visitors can attempt Catriona’s iconic lava walk thanks to an interactive display.

While Catriona is the first Filipino to receive a wax replica in Madame Tussauds, her fellow beauty queen, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, also has a wax figure but is displayed at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong branch.
