The works of over 100 visual artists, including one by National Artist Ben Cab, are part of a virtual group exhibition to support the candidacy of presidential aspirant Leni Robredo.
The show, “Mas Radikal ang Magmahal,” online at www.radikal.ph, is a “strong collective statement of support from the creative community,” said organizer Gigo Alampay.
Participating in the show are artists who work with different materials and who are at different points in their careers, from the up and coming to the established.
“Hers is a brand of leadership that stands in stark contrast to what we have now. It is one defined by example, competence and incorruptibility,” said Alampay.
“It is the only one today that is genuinely worthy of our children, our country, and our future,” he added.
BenCab’s depiction of the Philippine flag, titled “Fragile and Strong”, made in 2014, is featured in the show.
Writer Butch Dalisay’s brief essay on what it means to be “radical” accompanies the artworks.
Robredo has been receiving endorsements from various groups, including more than 600 Catholic bishops, priests, deacons, and nuns; 137 economists, including several ex-NEDA chiefs; over 200 former officers and staff of various United Nations agencies; and women indigenous people leaders.
“All things considered, among the candidates who have laid out their political platforms and applied for the highest and the second highest posts of the land, we adjudge that it is Vice President Maria Leonor ‘Leni’ G. Robredo and Sen. Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan who best fit the job to be the next president and vice president of the Philippines,” said the Pari Madre Misyonero Para Kay Leni in a statement posted on their Facebook page with 602 signatories as of February 19.
“We believe that VP Leni Robredo is our best hope to turn the tide and bring back the people’s trust in government in order to restore and sustain vigor to people’s lives and livelihoods at the soonest possible time,” according to the economists who endorsed Robredo.
