Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla came to the defense of province mate and Partido Reporma standard-bearer Panfilo Lacson who was earlier described by Vice President Leni Robredo as an “all talk and no action” contender.
In a Facebook post, Remulla said it was an “injustice” to belittle Lacson’s over half a century in public service as having done nothing for the country.
Titling his FB post “Kakamping” – the moniker used by Lacson’s supporters – Remulla prefaced his message with the question-and-answer between talk show host Boy Abunda and Robredo in a recent televised interview on why the Partido Reporma bet should not be elected as the next Chief Executive.
“To describe him as ‘all talk and no action’ is an injustice to the man who embodies ‘leadership by example’ with 50 years of public service from law enforcement, legislation and humanitarian work,” the governor said.
“FYI. This post is not an endorsement. Here in Cavite, registered voters are free to choose which candidate they will vote for. No coercion, influence, and especially no mind conditioning,” said Remulla.
“As a relative, province mate and fellow Imus/Cavite native, it’s just right for me to stand up and defend Senator Ping Lacson. If there’s a candidate that has the widest experience as a true public servant, there’s no other man than Sen. Ping,” Remulla added.
The governor expressed hope that Robredo would take heed of the advice he gave her before to avoid giving in to the hate.
“The same goes to her supporters. The best way to champion your candidate or political stand is not through hate and divisiveness. You can never convince other people to join your cause if all you do is look down, insult, ridicule, and alienate those who do not share the same views as you. Let’s just all agree to disagree,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lacson said no prominent families with business empires or are part of political clans will get richer and more famous under his administration as he abhors the idea of crony capitalism.
Lacson said the single standard policy that he wants to implement across-the-board would ensure that crony capitalists would not rise during his administration.
“As I said, there will be one standard. The common mistake of past administrations was that once they get there, they apply a double standard. Allies, friends, relatives are treated differently from those who are not considered as allies or even their political enemies. There should only be one standard,” he said.
