Lawmakers pay tribute to Journal editor-in-chief Augusto ‘Gus’ Villanueva

Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin G. Romualdez on Friday honored the life and solid contribution to the media industry of veteran journalist and Journal Group of Publications editor-in-chief Augusto “Boss Gus” B. Villanueva who passed away Friday.

“I join the loved ones and friends of Mr. Gus Villanueva in mourning his passing. A journalist par excellence. Your passion and commitment to bring the truth to light are exceptional. We extend our condolences to his family and loved ones. May you find peace in knowing that he is now back to the loving embrace of our Father,” Romualdez said in a statement.

“The vacuum you (Villanueva) left behind will never be filled by one particular person,” Romualdez added.

Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor said, “the death of Mr. Villanueva is a sad new to media industry that he served with utmost integrity and diligence.”

“We all grieve for losing him. My sympathies go out to the love of his life—her family, especially his children. Thank you for your service sir,” Defensor, a Quezon City mayoralty candidate, said.

Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, chair of the House committee on dangerous drugs, said “I extend my condolences to the bereaved family of Mr. Villanueva, and we are one with them in prayers.”

Reelectionist Sen. Joel Villanueva said Gus Villanueva was admired and respected by his colleagues in the media industry.

“I join our friends with thoughts of comfort in extending our sincere sympathies to the Villanueva family during this very painful time. He will be included in our prayers. Thank you, for a job well done,” Villanueva said.
