NLEX Corporation, together with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) have formally granted public access to the Meycauayan East Service Road. Connecting Libtong in Meycauayan City and Lawang Bato in Valenzuela City, the new access road will ease traffic both for northbound and southbound travelers.
Using a portion of the NLEX right-of-way, the DPWH constructed this one-kilometer, two-laned service road as an alternate route for those traveling between the cities of Meycauayan and Valenzuela – bypassing MacArthur Highway. With the opening of this route, motorists coming from Paso de Blas in Valenzuela City may reach Malhacan in Meycauayan City faster – compared to using other local, more congested roads.
The new service road aims to provide motorists with a direct local route and help improve traffic flow especially during rush hours at Meycauayan Interchange. The project is part of the Bulacan Road Network improvements to encourage economic growth and travel safety.
Over the years, vehicular traffic on both the east and west directions of Meycauayan has dramatically increased owing to the City’s growing economy and expanding developments.

Construction of the NLEX – Sta. Mesa Section Connector Officially Underway
Recently, the NLEX Corporation signed an agreement with China Road and Bridges Corporation (CRBC) for the civil works contract of the NLEX Connector “Phase 2” project between the future España and Sta. Mesa interchanges in Manila City. This therefore officially kicked off construction as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and NLEX Corporation subsequently led the groundbreaking ceremony for the remaining three kilometers of the elevated expressway.
The entire NLEX Connector, which spans a total of eight kilometers, uses portions of the PNR right-of-way. It extends the expressway southward from the NLEX Harbor Link Caloocan Interchange, 5th Avenue/C3 Road all the way to the Skyway Stage 3 Interchange located above the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) vicinity in Sta. Mesa, Manila – passing through España and R. Magsaysay Blvds.
The NLEX Connector is crucial in improving mobility since it shall beneficially divert cargo trucks to the elevated expressway, thereby decongesting local roads. In addition, the said route shall not have any truck bans and will be accessible 24/7.
Aimed at spurring growth, the NLEX Connector will enable the supply chain and logistics sector to achieve24/7 unhampered delivery of goods, which are vital contributors in mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.
Once opened, around 35,000 motorists are expected to traverse this new expressway which runs mostly above the PNR alignment.
