The court secretary reads the decision of Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes, seated in the jampacked makeshift courtroom at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, on the Maguindanao massacre case on Thursday.
Sentenced to 57 life imprisonment terms were Datu Andal “Unsay” Ampatuan Jr., his brother Zaldy Ampatuan, and 41 others.
Judge Solis entered the camp that also houses the National Capital Region Police Office with Supreme Court spokesman Midas Marquez, while other policemen escort several of the 101 accused into the holding area.
Outside the camp, NCR riot police stand ready to fend off protesters and sympathizers of the families of the 58 people, including 32 journalists, who died in the horrific attack over 10 years ago.
