SGV elects new country managing partner

SGV & Co., the country’s largest multidisciplinary professional services firm, announces the election of Wilson Tan as the country managing partner effective Jan. 1, 2020. He will succeed J. Carlitos Cruz who has served as CMP since 2017.  

As CMP, Tan will oversee SGV’s overall strategic direction and drive business growth guided by the firm’s purpose to nurture leaders and enable businesses for a better Philippines.

Tan has extensive experience in financial audits for large companies in the banking, infrastructure, telecommunications, power generation and distribution, oil refinery, mining, construction and manufacturing sectors.

He is a recognized authority on International Financial Reporting Standards and performs financial accounting advisory and implementation, financial due diligence reviews and structured transaction advisory, among others. He is the chairman of the Philippine Interpretations Committee, which assists the Financial Reporting Standards Council of the Philippines in enhancing financial reporting standards in the country.

Tan is the national board member-sectoral director for Public Practice and treasurer of the executive committee of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He received the PICPA Outstanding CPA in Public Practice Award in 2009 and a Special Achievement in International Professional Involvement in 2012.  

Tan currently co-chairs the professional development committee of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines. He is also a member of the Management Association of the Philippines and the Makati Business Club.

Tan joined SGV in 1987 and was admitted to the partnership in 2000. Over the course of his career, he has served in various SGV leadership positions including vice chairman and deputy managing partner, markets leader, assurance services leader, market group leader, accounting standards group head and financial and commodity risk services head. 

A certified public accountant, he graduated from the University of the East in Manila with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, summa cum laude. 

He placed 12th in the 1987 CPA board examinations. He later obtained his Master of Business Administration from the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland. 

He also attended the Pacific Rim Bankers Program-Foster School of Business, University of Washington.
