NGCP spending P463b in 10 years to boost network

National Grid Corp. of the Philippines unveiled a plan to invest P463 billion over the next 10 years to maintain and boost the reliability of the country’s transmission network.

NGCP said among these projects are the 500-kilovolt substation projects (Taguig and Marilao) and 230-kV substation projects (Pasay, Navotas, and Antipolo) that would cater to the load growth of Metro Manila.

It said that in the Visayas, the Cebu-Bohol 230-kV Interconnection Project would accommodate the load growth and provide reliability of Bohol while the Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay Interconnection Project would support the load growth and provide reliability of Boracay.

Other projects are the Visayas Voltage Improvement Project which aimed to improve the power quality in the Visayas region; the Mindanao 230-kV backbone project that would upgrade the region’s transmission capacity and secure the reliability of transmission services throughout the island and the Mindanao Substation Upgrading Project which would increase its capacity and improve power quality.

Another project is the Kabacan 138-kV Substation Project that is expected to contribute to power reliability in South Western Mindanao area.

“Our projects, which will be worth P188 billion by end of 2019, and those in the pipeline, are meticulously planned by our engineers and updated year after year with careful consideration for the needs of every single area in the country,” NGCP said in a statement.

The company so far completed 109 projects which including the Lumban-Bay 230-kV Transmission Line Project which provided maximum dispatch of power plants from South Luzon to the Load Center; the San Esteban-Laoag 230-kV Transmission Line Project which accommodated the renewal energy power plants in Northern Luzon and the Luzon Voltage Improvement Projects which provided additional megavolt ampere reactive capacity to improve power quality. 

Another completed project is the Bataan Grid Reinforcement Project which accommodated a 600-megawatt coal power plant in Bataan.
