NLEX wants nothing less than PBA title

The NLEX Road Warriors, who have not found early success in the Philippine Basketball Association, find themselves in the unlikely position of leading the team standings.

They are already assured of a seat in the Quarterfinals but they certainly want more than just qualifying into the playoffs.

“We can’t be complacent knowing that we’re already in the quarterfinals. Part lang yun ng goal namin. Ang goal namin talaga is to make it to the finals and try to win a championship. So we can’t be contented with a quarterfinals berth,” said NLEX guard Kiefer Ravena.

The squad started winning consistently after it overhauled 28-point deficit to stun Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in Dubai.

After returning home, the Road Warriors racked up three more victories. With new import Manny Harris in tow they beat the Columbian Dyip, TNT KaTropa and Rain or Shine. Harris replaced Olu Ashaolu.

“Sa Dubai sabi namin let’s just try to get one out of the two, blessing in disguise na comeback win kami against Ginebra. Tapos slowly but surely the confidence started to creep into us and continue to win one, win one,” Ravena said.

“This is our fourth straight win, so it’s been a tough road. Swerte lang na healthy na lahat and we have a great import that really blends well in our system. We’re fortunate enough to be that way. The momentum hopefully we carry it on.”

Ravena had 12 points and six assists after leading the Road Warriors to victory which tied them with TNT KaTropa at the top of the standings with identical 7-1 slates.

Up next are NorthPort Batang Pier on Nov. 13 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and then the Alaska Aces on Nov. 20 in Antipolo.

“Come our next game, it’s gonna be harder and harder for us because once you’re at the top, everybody’s going at you,” said Ravena. “We have to stay healthy, we can’t take it for granted pagdating lalong lalo na sa conditioning namin kasi ayaw namin na ito lang yung peak namin.”
