In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Sogetsu Ikebana mounted an exhibition anchored on the theme “Flower Focus.”
The exhibit featured works by some 60 members of the association from Manila and the provinces. Arrangements on display featured different kinds of flowers as the exhibitor’s flower of choice was highlighted in their respective creations. There were carnations, orchids, sunflowers, calla lilies, heliconias, mums, chrysanthemums, and dahlias.
The Sogetsu School of Ikebana, founded by Sofu Teshigahara, allows the arranger freedom of expression by incorporating the use of unconventional materials. “Sogetsu can be done by anyone, anywhere, anytime with any kind of materials so long as it conforms with the basic rules of shape line and form.”
Part of the exhibit were demonstrations of Nageiri and Moribana styles of Sogetsu by teachers of Sogetsu.
Madam Ihoko Haneda, wife of Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koji Haneda, graced the opening of the exhibition.
