BI agents arrest Japanese fugitive

Immigration agents arrested a Japanese fugitive who is an alleged former member of the Japanese Yakuza syndicate after hiding in the Philippines for almost nine years.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the arrested alien as 71-year-old Katsumi Ohno who is wanted in Japan for fraud and other crimes.

Ohno’s arrest was sought by the Japanese Embassy last February when it informed the BI about a standing arrest warrant for fraud that a Japanese court issued against him.

“We also learned that his passport already expired in November last year, making him an undocumented alien,” Morente said.

He added that Ohno has been included in the immigration blacklist to prevent him from returning to the Philippines.
