In an exclusive interview with the Manila Standard during a set visit for the film Kiko en Lala, breakout comedian Super Tekla, or Romeo Librada in real life, was a picture of simplicity, albeit dressed in character, and genuine enthusiasm.
He said he could only be thankful for the opportunities that come along his way, and he would be forever grateful to the people who believe in him more than he believes in himself.
“I have experienced so many downfalls, I was at the bottom, but GMA still gambled on me and gave a chance to showcase my talent as a comedian. What more can I say? I can only be thankful for all the support I get from the network, and for the bosses for giving me their trust once again,” the 37-year-old comedian said in vernacular.
“This is my second chance. I don’t deny that I had some missteps before but I’m ready to pull myself up and cherish what I have right now. Not everybody is given a second chance so I’m trying to deliver what’s expected of me as an actor, as a comedian. I don’t want to let the people around me down,” he added.
Super Tekla is all set for his big-screen debut in the much-awaited film Kiko en Lala, which unspools in theaters tomorrow.
Produced by Backyard Productions, Super Tekla plays a challenging dual role as the conjoined twins Kiko and Lala. Kiko is the tough and masculine twin, while Lala is the outspoken and witty gay twin. Because of their condition, the inseparable twins were transported to the carnival known as ‘Kambal Karnibal’.
In spite of their differences, Kiko and Lala contentedly live their lives in each other’s close-knit company. Problem ensues when the twins wish to be separated from one another but there’s a catch—only one body can exist and the adrift two souls must fight over it.
In hopes of scoring a chance to be with their romantic interests, the then inseparable twins now battle over who is more deserving of the body.
“Doing this film is very challenging. I think any actor who plays dual roles would have a hard time adjusting so you just have to trust the director who knows what exactly the characters ask for. Imagine we have Kim Domingo and Derrick Monasterio as my love interests. That alone is very challenging,” Super Tekla said in jest.
Joining the talented cast of Kiko en Lala are Tetay as the cunning fortune teller Wagas, Lala’s rival over Rap (Derrick); Kiray Celis as Dalisay, Wagas’ gullible minion; Jo Berry as Tadhana, Wagas’ sister and an unusual clairvoyant who uses her sense of smell to communicate with spirits; and Vangie Labalan as Mama San, the kindhearted woman who owns the carnival.
Playing a very special role in the film is AiAi delas Alas. She breathes into live Deadline whose job is to escort human souls at the end of their journey. She also serves as the mediator between Kiko en Lala.
Kiko en Lala is under the helm of the multi-awarded director Adolfo Alix Jr.
