The Supreme Court has been asked to stop the Social Security System and other government agencies from collecting mandatory contributions from millions of land-based overseas Filipino workers.

In a 36-page petition, the Makabayan bloc composed of militant party-list groups pleaded the SC to immediately issue a temporary restraining order or permanent injunction enjoining the implementation of several provisions of Republic Act No. 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.

The petition was filed by Migrante International, BayanMuna Partylist chairman Neri Colmenares and Reps. Carlos Isagani Zarate, Ferdinand Gaite, and Eufemia Cullamat; Gabriela Women’s Partylist Rep. Arlene Brosas; ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. Francisca Castro; Kabataan Partylist Rep. Sarah Jane Elago; and several land-based OFWs.
