To address the plight of distressed overseas Filipino workers, Senator Cynthia Villar vowed to continue to support adequate funding to finance government’s repatriation and assistance programs for them.
“It is very important that our countrymen abroad will have a place to run to and a system to rely on in case of problems,” said Villar.
“They should feel that there is a government that is ready to help them no matter where they may go,” also said Villar.
She noted that not all Filipinos who opted to seek greener pasture abroad became successful in their endeavor.
“Stories about our kababayans suffering maltreatment and abuse in the hands of their employers always break our hearts,” she said.
While the Philippine government continues to push for a more favorable working environment for OFWs in foreign lands, Villar also cited the need to help repatriated OFWs start anew and rebuild their lives through assistance.
