Meralco spends P10b to improve network

Manila Electric Co., the biggest retailer of electricity, spent P10 billion in the first six months of 2019, including P8 billion solely for network system improvement and reliability.

Meralco spent most of the first-half capital expenditure program for system requirements, including for those new load and customer requirements and system reliability during the period. Meralco allocated P12 billion in capex for the entire year.

“For the first half, Meralco spent P8 billion out of P12 billion. About P2.16 billion were projects that address load growth requirements. We also spent significant amount for the relocation of poles to support PPP/BBB (Public Private Partnership/Build,Build, Build) projects of government,” Meralco head of networks Ronnie Aperocho said.

The capex aimed to ensure adequacy and address reliability, power quality and network resilience while providing enhanced customer service for the company’s more than six million customers. Alean Mae S. Flores

The completed major capex include the development of Southwoods 115 kV substation, construction of the new San Jose-Novaliches 115 kV line and commissioning of the Lucky Nine Property Inc.’s 115 kV line. Alean Mae S. Flores
