The 11-member Electro Groovers dance group bested seven other contenders in this year’s King Julien Dance Competition.
Electro Groovers, who hails from Quezon City, took home P120,000 cash prize and a specialized DreamPlay championship trophy for their five-minute dance number which earned the fervent applause of the judges and audience.
“We congratulate Electro Groovers for their much-deserved win; and who, apart from showing their immense talent, also performed with great joy on the Dance Off stage,” enthused Michael Ziemer, City of Dreams Manila’s vice president for hotels, food and beverage.
Also capturing the hearts of the audience were Cool Kidz Crew from Taytay, Rizal and Rock Kids from Quezon City, who placed first and second runners-up, respectively. Apart from the DreamPlay plaques, Cool Kidz Junior Crew took home P30,000 cash, while Rock Kids received P20,000 cash.
“Witnessing them and other promising young performers gives us immeasurable fulfillment and drives us to continue staging the King Julien Dance Off competition to provide an enjoyable platform to discover new talents and hone their abilities,” added Ziemer.
DreamPlay’s King Julien Dance Off first opened its doors in 2016 to talented dance groups from around the country, composed of children aged 7 to 14 years old. Since then, the Dance Off stage has also become a springboard for talented children to fulfill their dreams of performing in local and international stages.
Past grand winners include Junior FMD Extreme (2016 Grand Champion), an all-boys group of former street children; Higher Level Kids (2017 Grand Champion), an all-boys group from Cavite; and GFAM (2018 Grand Champion), who went on to win in other dance competitions such as World Supremacy Battle Ground (Young Guns Division) in 2018, and a back-to-back championship title in the Inter School Dance Sports Competition (National Capital Region 2017 to 2018).
