Last 6 June, Magsaysay Tankers won Best Ship Owner at the 7th Shell Masters Awards held at Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila. The ceremonies were attended by top Shell executives with Shell’s major partners including Magsaysay Shipping and Logistics (MSL) representatives Doris Magsaysay Ho, President and CEO of Magsaysay Group of Companies, Jesse Maxwell, President and COO of Tankers Division, and Abel Cagara, General Manager of Tankers Division, among others. In addition, MSL bagged Best in Performance and Best Tanker for MT Samal Island.
Shell Masters’ Awards (Shell Maritime Safety and Technical Efficiency Recognition System) aims to recognize Shell-chartered vessels that exhibit exemplary performance in delivering cargoes, operating within guarantees and compliance with HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment), and having no incidents and accidents.
Four shipping partners currently compete in the following categories: Best in HSSE – the vessel with the least incident, good SIRE (Ship Inspection Report) standing, and outstanding safety record; Best in Performance – operational excellence where all guarantees are met, creates commercial impact to Shell, has the least unscheduled downtime; Best Barge – a combination of Best in HSSE and Performance criteria plus commerciality (barge charter rate); Best Tanker – a combination of Best in HSSE and Performance criteria plus commerciality (tanker charter rate); and Best Ship Owner or Best Shipping Company.
Magsaysay Tankers has won in all other categories every year including multiple recognitions for the Best Barge and Best Tanker but this year was special as MSL takes home Best Ship Owner. A major key to this achievement is its commitment to excellence, quality service, and safety.
