The National Capital Region Police Office said Wednesday 711 NCR police were dismissed since 2016, with 1,378 suspended, and 190 demoted in the first three years of the Duterte administration, while 398 were exonerated.

Data released by NCR police chief Guillermo Eleazar showed  69 officers were dismissed between 2016 and 2017, 285 between 2017 and 2018, and 357 between 2018 and the first half of this year.

The data showed  190 were demoted in the first three years of the Duterte administration, while 398 were exonerated.

The “most opportune time” to conduct the internal cleansing is now, when the government has doubled the salaries of police and military personnel, Eleazar said.

Data shown by Eleazar during a weekly news forum in Manila reflected figures from the start of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term up to the first half of 2019.

Eleazar immediately approves recommendations for dismissals as determined by police lawyers, but reviews the cases of those who were exonerated, the NCRPO chief noted.

Five officers had their salaries forfeited, and one lost retirement benefits in the last three years. Thirty-three were reprimanded, according Eleazar’s data.
