Caloocan City Mayor Oca Malapitan has registered a landslide victory in the May 13 midterm polls, securing his third and final term as the city’s chief executive.
The Caloocan City Board of Canvassers proclaimed Mayor Oca around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday after he garnered 428,954 votes or more than 90 percent of the total number of votes.
The four other mayoral challengers “• independent candidates Emil Trinidad, Ruffy Bayon-on, Ed Sevilla, and WPP’s Ronnie Malunes—combined for just under 14,000 votes.
“I want to thank the Caloocan residents. We are truly grateful for their support and trust,” Mayor Oca said.
The mayor vowed to create programs and projects for the welfare of his constituents and to make Caloocan a progressive city.
“We will continue what we have started. We will make sure that through unity and good governance, all promises in different sectors are fulfilled,” Malapitan emphasized.
Meanwhile, Mayor Oca’s runningmate, Vice Mayor Maca Asistio, got 375,020 votes as an unopposed candidate.
Congressman Along Malapitan was also unopposed and was reelected as 1st District representative with 283,693 votes.
Also a winner was Caloocan City 2nd District Rep. Egay Erice, who got 124,233 votes, beating Noel Cabuhat of the NUP handily.
Other victories for Team Oca saw newly-elected Councilor Enteng Malapitan getting the highest vote as councilor for first district with 252,118 votes.
Other proclaimed councilors in the city’s first district under Team Oca were reelectionists Jay Africa, Alou Nubla, Karina Teh, and Dean Asistio. PJ Malonzo also won.
In the second district, winning councilors under Team Oca were reelectionists Doc Ed Aruelo, Obet Samson, LA Asistio, Rose Mercado, and newly-elected councilor Carding Bagus.
Meanwhile, independent candidate Alex Mangasar also won a seat on the city council.
