At 36.6 degrees, Metro bakes

Temperatures in Metro Manila peaked at 36.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the state weather bureau said “•the highest recorded temperature in Metro Manila so far this year.

Weather forecaster Ariel Rojas on Monday said the temperature reading was recorded at 2:56 p.m. at the Science Garden in Quezon City.

The Science Garden is the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s representative station in Metro Manila, Rojas explained.

The highest maximum heat index recorded on Sunday was at 49.6 degrees Celsius in Dagupan City, Pangasinan at 2 p.m., Pagasa added.

The heat index at the Science Garden and at the Port Area in Manila were both at 38 degrees Celsius, as Rojas said the dry weather will persist with easterlies continuing to affect the country.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected in Bicol region, Visayas and Mindanao, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers may persist in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
