I am writing to share with you a disturbing concern on the 11 April 2019 edition of Manila Standard, which carried an article entitled "Speech of Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen," using “Taiwan’s president” while not the so-called “Taiwan’s leader.” The aforesaid article would most likely send out misleading message to the general public.
The Chinese Government consistently adheres to one China principle, and firmly opposes to any attempt to create “two Chinas” or “one China and one Taiwan.” One China principle also serves as the political foundation of China-Philippines relations, as enshrined in the 1975 Joint Communique between our two countries upon establishing diplomatic ties and the Philippine governments have ever since been committed to this principle in real earnest.
Therefore, I sincerely hope that Manila Standard would take into serious consideration the position stated above, recognize the sensitivity and complexity of the issue, and see to it that no such misconduct reoccur in the future. And more important, we should try our utmost to lay a friendly and appropriate foundation for our future cooperation.
