Balanga City, Bataan—Despite running unopposed for reelection, Vice Governor Cris Garcia of the National Unity Party is busy campaigning not only for herself but also for their complete provincial slate.

She is running in tandem with her cousin, reelectionist Gov. Abet Garcia.

The NUP slate includes candidates for first district board members reelectionists Benjie Serrano and Rey Ibe, Kristine Dela Fuente, Jomar Gaza, and Bong Galicia; and reelectionists Manny Beltran, Peping Villapando and Ed Calimbas; Popoy del Rosario, and Iya Roque for second district board member.

The vice governor is exhorting voters in the province to continue supporting Governor Garcia who is pitted against Limay Mayor Ver Roque.

“Vote our slate straight for the continuous progress of Bataan,” she urged.

Before becoming vice governor, Garcia was the original coordinator of the Iskolar ng Bataan program. She now serves as its adviser.

She was proclaimed vice governor by Comelec on June 2, 2017 as duly substituted official candidate to her late uncle, Tet Garcia, who also ran unopposed in the May 2016 elections.

The Garcia camp on May 2016 filed a petition for substitution, citing Tet Garcia’s lingering illness, and named Cris as the substitute.

The elder Garcia, a former governor and congressman, died on June 13, 2016.
