One cannot argue with the fact that this young miss has turned into a fine woman. Add another layer of truth, some proofs that Therese Malvar is one of the country’s finest actresses.
At a very young age, Malvar has numerous acting awards under her belt with Best Supporting Actress (triple tie) at the Eddys 2018 (Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards) for Ilawod and Best Supporting Actress (double tie with herself) at the 14th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival 2018 for the movies Distance and School Service, most recently.
In the latest GMA 7 afternoon drama Inagaw na Bituin, she gives life to Ariella, an emerging chanteuse who will do everything to ensure her superstardom, come hell or high water.
Malvar described her character, “Ariella is a girl who has connections and who believes in what she can do, she is proud of herself and she will do whatever it takes to take the spotlight, even if it means competing for her own blood-related sister.”
“I will make sure to make this role as natural as possible, the one that you can easily relate to. She has flaws and she is very narcissistic and believe it or not, kind of naïve,” she explained.
Malvar’s quick reply when asked if the audiences can still find something to love about Ariella. “She still would be love for the intention she has, which is to make her family proud with her reaching her dreams. Just like any other child.”
She comes clean, “I am so ready for my bashers and haters. It will be flattering to know if they would really get annoyed with my character. Sana mainis sila sa akin pero hindi sa mismong personality ko.”
“When it happens, I won’t be affected by the bashing because I believe in myself, the flaws thrown back at me won’t falter my foundation of self-love,” Malvar carried on.
With regard to the singing part of Ariella, the young miss admits, “I am still working on it and I think I will forever be working on it just like acting. I really do need the confidence knowing the fact that Ariella is one big feelingera and so sull of herself.”
Her impression of Kyline Alcantra, Malvar said, “Kyline is a lady mature beyond her years. I like that we both love what we do and we both continue to learn and have passion with our craft. We are both in the ‘Getting to know’ stage and it’s nice that we’re naturally gravitating with one another.”
This early, many are looking forward to see her and Alcantara in action, most especially the confrontation and cat fight scenes.
“I’m sure the writers would play around with our characters, and for sure over the top ang mga dramatic and confrontation scenes because that’s what the audience want,” Malvar reacted.
In person, it cannot be denied that Malvar is sugar and spice and all that is nice, thus, one cannot help but wonder, where is this savage side coming from? She replied, “I take it from inspirations of other actresses like Cherie Gil, Gladys Reyes, Rachel McAdams in Mean Girls, some KDrama characters. And I believe we all have a bitchy side in each one of us.”
Manolo Pedrosa is the man who will add more complication and strain to the characters that she and Alcantara portrays. But apart from the interesting characters and set of talented cast, why must people watch Inagaw na Bituin?
“Not only because of the theme, which is the singing industry and fame. But also the whole cast that makes it interesting and kaabang- abang. You wouldn’t be having less with each scene. Direk Mark Reyes is doing a fantastic job. He gives an interesting treatment to the theme of rivalry and domestic drama. I hope people would really connect with it and give it all their love,” she concluded.
Inagaw na Bituin is currently airing after Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko, on GMA 7.
