Baguio City—Luisita’s Golf and Country Club heads to the final round of the Senior Fil Championship flight 69th Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament today at the Baguio Country Club with a nine-point lead.
Luisita came in with 102 points for a three-day total of 351 and a nine-point lead over Megafiber, which moved to second spot after Manila Southwoods was slapped with a stiff penalty after the second round last Monday.
Chino Raymundo had 28, Rodel Mangulabnan came in with a 27, Eddie Bagtas and Raffy Garcia added 26 and 21 points for the Luisita, while Megafiber shot a flight-best 103 for 342 points.
“It is not a comfortable lead and we will treat tomorrow as if all scores are even,” said Garcia as they were slightly outshot by Megafiber, which had 28 points from Rolly Viray, 27 from Jose Mari Hechanova and a pair of 24 from Abe Rosal and Dave Hernandez.
“We are very fortunate to still be in the lead so we will play tomorrow to win,” added Garcia.
Manila Southwoods made 102 with Raul Minoza shooting the best flight score of 30 for a 337 total and third spot.
Southwoods should have been two down going to the third round, but Sang Jin Lee, who scored 30 points, was disqualified after signing a wrong card which made Bong Sison’s 18 count. Southwoods’ Day 2 effort was thus 115 instead of 127 and their total down to 235, good for third spot, instead of 247.
Freddie Mendoza of Southwoods said they did not contest the decision of Sang’s disqualification, saying that want to win fair and square.
“We will abide by it and play,” he added, watching the Southwoods player struggle at the rather stubborn BCC course where the best score was a six over by Minoza, who on Monday shot a one under 68 for 37 at Camp John Hay.
Okinawa made 94 for 297 and out of the podium race.
Silicon Valley Golfers Link Club saved the best for last by shooting 80 big points for 287 total, overhaul a 14 point deficit and win by five the Senior Fil D title.
Despite pitting only four players on the last day, all Silicon Valley golfers improved with Jose Alvin Gueco nearly doubling his third day haul at the BCC course when he shot a 26 (from 14), Daniel Guieb with 21 from a day three team best 19, Ellazar Barrientos chipped in 17 (from 11) and Felipe Basbas added a 16 (from 14) as they came from fifth down to nail the crown.
