The 18th edition of the annual Wang Basketball‘s Chairman’s Cup opens today (Saturday) at the Aquinas Gym in San Juan, with all four participating teams seeing action, with the Couriers playing the Bankers at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Secret Spice vs. First Asianic.
The long-running tournament is open to all players of past and present Wang’s basketball teams owned by sportsman-businessman Alex Wang, who will also be playing and coaching the Couriers in the tournament sponsored by Royal Tern Ceramics, Aquadys Inc., Chinabank Boni, and Union Bank, even as other sponsors have pledged their support.
Wang has opened its door in the past to former collegiate, commercial and professional players.
Among those playing these year, some from the current Wang’s team in the D-League, include playing coaches Buboy Rodriguez of First Asianic and Pablo Lucas for Secret Spice, former Red Lion Paolo Brojan, University of Perpetual help College’s Daryl Singontico, Jio Lopez from Faith and several players from Asia Tech in Laguna..
It will be a single-round robin format for the teams, with the top team to emerge champion.
The awarding ceremonies are already set for Dec. 15 at the El Tirago Resto Bar.
