The Department of the Interior and Local Government–Central Office Disaster Information Coordinating Center is now armed with Smart Infocast, a system that will help enhance the agency’s communication and disaster preparedness efforts.
A service of PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications, Smart Infocast is a web-based text message broadcast solution that can send out several short message service alerts to a specific group of people as defined by its authorized user.
The system can deliver immediate messages to a large number of predetermined recipients.
In the case of DILG, Smart Infocast can send out news broadcasts, weather bulletins, and other critical information to local government and disaster management officials, helping enhance LGUs’ information dissemination and making it an effective emergency communications solution.
The facility also allows registered subscribers to send reports or feedback to the system administrator.
Gracing the ceremonial turnover were DILG officials and Smart representatives led by Secretary Eduardo Año and Smart community partnerships senior manager Nova Concepcion.
Also present were DILG head Executive Assistant Josephine Leysa, Assistant Secretary Manuel Felix, National Police Commission Vice Chair Rogelio Casurao, Undersecretary Martin Diño, ASec Maribel Sacendoncillo, Smart community marketing specialist Ria Luciano, Usec. Bernardo Florece Jr., Asec. Ester Aldana and Director Edgar Allan Tabell.”‹
