Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Jesus Dureza lauded the Philippine Sports Commission for its efforts in promoting unity with its ‘Sports for Peace’ programs during the 2018 Mindanao Media Safety and Security Summit at Eden Natures Park and Resort, Toril, Davao City.
In front of around almost 100 journalists from the region, PSC Chairman William Ramirez shared the agency’s initiatives in using sports as a vital tool for peace-making among children around the country.
“I commend the PSC and Chairman Butch Ramirez for its revolutionary movement in ‘Sports for Peace’ program, which helps us in the same purpose of fostering peace to all Filipinos,” said Dureza in his speech.
“We in the PSC continuously believe that the children are our future. This initiative goes back to 2009 when we first started it in Midsayap, Cotabato. And now, we have reached more than almost 20,000 children,” said Ramirez.
“If we can teach our children about the importance of peace through sports, the Philippines will be a better country” added Ramirez.
Mindanao Independent Press Club President and veteran journalist Editha Caduayan thanked Ramirez for sharing “a new and effective way of building peace and camaraderie among Filipinos regardless of age, gender, and religious belief.”
