PNB widens reach in Visayas, Mindanao

PHILIPPINE National Bank, the fifth-largest lender in terms of assets, has widened its reach in the Visayas and Mindanao regions in response to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ call for financial institutions to be vital instruments for financial inclusion.

PNB said in a statement Friday the newly-opened branches were composed of “branch-lite” units aimed for the unbanked and underserved communities.

Executive vice president and retail banking sector head Bernie Tocmo said PNB was strengthening its presence in places where banking products and services were seen to be most needed to support the growth of regional economies.

As of August 2018, PNB has successfully established six branch-lite units, including PNB Quezon City-BSP in Metro Manila; PNB Cebu-Mactan International Airport in Cebu; PNB Pagadian City-Gaisano Capital in Zamboanga del Sur; PNB Leyte-Baybay City-VSU in Leyte; PNB Southern Leyte-Hinunangan in Southern Leyte; and PNB Davao-Samal Island in Davao del Norte.
