The Customs bureau expects to generate more than P52 million from the public auction sale of imported sugar scheduled tomorrow (Friday) at the Port of Manila.

The auction sale is pursuant to the provisions of Section 1139 to 1150 of the Republic Act No. 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and other relevant Customs Memorandum Orders and Customs Administrative Orders.

According to the Auction and Cargo Disposal Division of the said port, the auction will be conducted through sealed bidding and will cover four (4) sale lots: one (1) sale lot of high fructose corn syrup with a floor price of P1.18 million and three (3) sale lots of refined sugar with a total floor price pegged at P51 million.

The ten (10) 20-footer containers that contain high fructose corn syrup are consigned to Chymist Trading while the 60 20-footer containers containing sacks of refined sugar are consigned to Red Star Rising Corp. Both are abandoned shipments.

The shipment of sugar, apart from being abandoned, was also misdeclared by Red Star Rising Corp. as packaging materials, kitchen utensils, and kraft paper. Further investigation revealed that the corporation has no import permit from the Sugar Regulatory Administration to import the commodity.

Public viewing of merchandise and pre-bid conference for all qualified bidders is on Aug. 30 at the POM. Actual auction sale will be held at the Auction Hall, 3rd floor, Auction, and Cargo Disposal Division, POM building.

Interested bidders may inquire at ACDD-POM with hotline numbers 0977-615-7648 or 0929-569-4915. Complete details are available on the BoC website, www.customs.gov.ph.
