Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. is optimistic of hitting the 2-million sales mark in the next two to three years despite challenges in the automotive sector.
Toyota Motor president Satoru Suzuki said sales were consistently up over the last 30 years.
“We have the support and confidence of customers. We reached this new milestone just last month (June 2018),” he said during the launch of the all-new Vios at Okada Manila in Pasay City.
Toyota took just three years to reach sales of 1.5 million vehicles after hitting the 1-million mark in April 2015.
Toyota Motor senior vice president for marketing Jose Maria Atienza said the Philippines had been consistently leading global and regional sales for several segments.
“We continue to be the top market for the Hi-Ace within the Toyota Group globally,” he said.
The Philippines also emerged as the second top market for Asia Pacific sales in 2017, next to China. It sold 36,733 units that year.
The company noted the improved economy and the better purchasing power would continue to entice Filipinos to buy cars.
“Adding to that, we also provide good products like the Avanza, Wigo, and Rush. Our dealership continues to increase. In fact, we just opened a new store in Bukidnon,” Atienza said.
The Philippines ranked third in terms of sales after the traditionally big markets of Indonesia and Thailand, respectively.
Toyota Philippines in 2017 sold 183,000 units across all segments.
