This corner features pets of animal lovers every week. We hope new owners and those thinking of getting a pet will be encouraged to be responsible “furparents” through these features. We also hope more people will be moved to be kind to animals when they read about the great relationship that can be created between humans and animals.

For contributions, please email to daycarlos28@yahoo.com and put My Furry Bestie as subject.

BUBBLES came into the life of  Cynthia Barcial Santos one rainy morning in July 2007.

“A friend called me if I was interested in taking in his poodle who was about 2 years old. I was hesitant at first as already had 7 dogs then and taking in one  more who was not a pup might cause problems,” Cynthia recalls.

She add: “But then he said he could no longer take care of  the poodle. I believe I said yes to adopting Bubbles because this furbaby and I were meant to cross paths. When I got there, the poodle had the most beautiful, soulful eyes that my fears simply vanished. It was a she.  And to say she was not being taken cared of was an understatement.”

Cynthia shares: “Her back legs are deformed, thus she walks in a  different way.  I asked what happened to Bubbles and I was told she did not get enough sunshine or  vitamins thus the vitamin D deficiency resulted in deformed legs. “

Bubbles also had a lot of fleas on her.

“I picked her up and wrapped her in a towel. On the way home, she just stared at me with that bewildered look. I just smiled and said, ‘So you’re Bubbles. We are going home. I’m your mom now.”  From then on, I had a daughter that followed me around wherever I went,” Cynthia recalls.

Bubbles, Cynthia says,  is “not a dog who will kiss you. I love it when she has this certain  look when I hug her and say " Kiss mommy,”  that seems to say, " OH NO! DONT KISS ME AGAIN !"

“But she endeared herself to me. I almost lost her when she had pyometra in December 2009.  My vet  helped me find someone who can operate on her because my vet could not guarantee she would survive. Luckily, in  Februrary 2010, a co- vet trained in the US agreed. And Bubbles survived!” Cynthia adds.

“Bubbles is my sunshine, my baby, who makes me laugh when she does her happy dance when I come home. She is also a messy eater that drives me nuts!” Cynthia says.

Bubbles is  now 13 years old.

“She just settles herself wherever I am, spending most of her time sleeping. Knowing how the years have passed I dread the day I will  lose someone so wonderful in my life,” Cynthia says.

ARTEMY was a kitten of our former neighbor and was left alone in August, 2013 when our neighbor transferred to another place. He was very thin, and his fur was trimmed in such a way that it seemed it was cut for fun.

Initially, Kat Perez Abundancia  was hesitant to get him as they were not sure who really owned him.

“I was in Cebu for work then when my sister called and found out that her kids took him in and hid him in the back area of the house. I told them to put him in a cage first as I’m not there to have him checked,” Kat says.

She also asked them to clean him up, feed him and monitor him.

“So when I arrived, I did what I usually do when we a new rescue. I brought him to the vet,” Kat says.

“We named him Artemy as I really wanted to have a white cat similar to Artemis, the cat from Sailormoon. Now he is all grown up, loves to hang out inside the sack of cat food (buffet overload), and until now he thinks he is still as tiny as before as he loves to be carried by his meowmy (yours truly), “ Kat adds.
