If you’re a Tagalog movie fan in the last five decades, you must have watched a lot of movies produced by Sampaguita Pictures and VP Pictures. They were like what we know now as Bollywood movies where the lead stars break out in song-and-dance numbers in many scenes.
Susan Roces, the one you see now in the long-running series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano has been in some of those movies.
And when I was little watching those movies in the town’s only cinema with wooden benches sans air-conditioning I wondered why Susan’s speaking voice was distinctly different from her singing voice. I discovered later that someone else (real singers) dubbed her musical numbers so she would sound like a pro. It made me laugh to no end.
At the presscon for RiteMed that also coincided with the renewal of her contract as endorser (now counting seven years), Susan said that she is glad the people behind RiteMed gave her the chance to sing using her own voice the brand’s commercial jingle.
“During my years in Sampaguita, I sang songs but the film used other singers’ voices overdubbed mine, so the fans were not hearing me singing but the real singers,” she confessed eliciting laughter from the younger members of the press who might have never watched old Tagalog movies of the Bollywood kind.
The jingle has gone viral and Susan is very happy that her fans, new and old alike, like what she has done.
With the TVC showing her and other “models’’ dancing to the tune of “Huwag mahihiyang magtanong kung may RiteMed ba nito,” the sales of RiteMed branded products is also soaring making Vincent Patrick Guerrero, RiteMed GM super happy.
Susan said during the presscon, “I am very thankful that many people continue to trust me and the products she is endorsing, because “gusto naming kayong gumaling.”
