Alliance Global begins monorail project in Makati

INFRACORP Development Inc., a unit of Alliance Global Group Inc. of tycoon Andrew Tan, said it may select its operations and maintenance partner and as well as the technology supplier for its planned P3-billion sky train monorail project by the last quarter of 2018.

INFRACORP president Kevin Tan said in an interview during the recent stockholders’ meeting of sister company Megaworld Corp. the group received offers from Austria and France for the sky train project.

Tan said the company was also looking at Japan and China as the possible technology provider and O&M partner.

“After we have obtained the Original Proponent Status from the government, we are now starting to prepare and we already received some bids,” Tan said. “I think should be able to make decision on the O&M by end of the year.”

Tan said he was also open to the idea of extending the planned three-kilometer monorail project to Makati and Taguig.

Tan said the Ayala Group approached the company for the possible extension of the project, which could benefit the property firm’s mixed-use projects, Circuit in Makati and Arca South in Taguig.

“We are in the process of implementing the first phase of the project which is Guadalupe to Bonifacio Global City. Any expansion will be taken as second or even third stage (of the project),” Tan said.

The P3-billion Skytrain monorail project, which will use the automated cable-propelled monorail technology, will reduce travel time from Fort Bonifacio to MRT Guadalupe Makati and vice versa to just five minutes.

The project will also make provisions to interconnect with other transport hubs operating within the area where the monorail passes through. It envisions to benefit around 60,000 to 100,000 passengers daily going to and from the bustling business districts of Makati and Taguig.
