BSP looks into P100-bill misprint

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said Thursday it was investigating some allegedly misprinted 100-peso bills and urged the public to present them for verification.

In a post on its official social media accounts, the central bank said it was investigating the misprinted bills showing a picture of the late President Manuel A. Roxas with a split upper right lip.

“The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has noted social media posts referring to alleged misprinted 100-peso banknotes and is looking into the matter,” the central bank said.

The 100-peso bills were said to have been withdrawn from an automated teller machine in Quezon City.

Central bank Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo said they had yet to verify the authenticity of the bills.

“No one has submitted to us those alleged defective notes. [It’s] Impossible to comment on its authenticity,” Guinigundo said in a text message.

“We request [the] individuals who have [the] alleged misprinted banknotes in their possession to bring them to the nearest BSP Branch/Regional Office or in Quezon City (East Avenue) during office hours for their verification and replacement.”

Last year, a batch of 100-peso bills was also misprinted with the face of President Roxas left blank.
