Members of the Canda family from Davao City gather around the table to break their first ‘Iftar’ during the holy month of Ramadan after surviving their fasting beside the majestic Grand Mosque in Kalangangan, Cotabato City. The iftar meal is announced every evening by striking the bedug, a giant drum, in the mosque. Common greetings during the holy month are ‘Ramadan Mubarak’ or ‘Ramadan Kareem’ that wish the recipient a blessed or generous season.
