May 14 non-working holiday–Palace

Malacañang on Wednesday declared May 14, 2018 a special non-working holiday in connection with the holding of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation No. 479, declaring May 14, a Monday a non-working day to enable the people to fully exercise their right of suffrage.

The Commission on Elections said its all systems go for the barangay and SK elections on May 14, and banned on liquor starts at 12 midnight of May 13 up to 12 midnight of May 15.

 The filing of Certificates of Candidacy for barangay and SK posts began on April 14 and will be on until the 20th.

The campaign period started   May 4 and will end on May 12, the Comelec said.

The positions of  punong barangay (village captain), 7  kagawads  (members of the Sangguniang Barangay or village council), SK chairperson, and 7 SK members will be up for grabs.

Meanwhile, the Civil Service Commission warned all members of the military not to engage in partisay politics during the elections.

CSC Chairperson Alicia dela Rosa-Bala said the warning is in line with preparations for the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

“Civil servants are mandated by law to uphold political neutrality in the conduct of their duties even more during election season,” added the CSC chairperson.
